a most entertaining reinvisioning by antman - April 12, 2010
i thoroughly enjoyed this flick! a most entertaining re-envisioning of sherlock holmes - an action-packed, buddy movie, snugly packed inside a smart sherlock holmes crime mystery. aided by guy ritchie's cool, directorial panache (it's as if he picked up where he left off with...snatch), robert downey jr.'s consistently witty charm captures the perfect tone. it's brilliant actually; now i can't see anyone else as either tony stark *or* sherlock holmes. seriously, i was so caught up with downey jr.'s charismatic holmes that i forgot to notice if his accent was spot-on or not; clearly, it was sufficient enough. but i honestly didn't even consider until now how significant it is that ritchie cast a yank in the role of an iconic brit. i was so bloody entertained with downey jr.'s performance, i forgot that he wasn't british. amusing (to me, anyway) considering this is just the type of casting that would easily irritate the piss out of me if it were any lesser actor. in any case, i could easily (& likely will) watch this movie again...and possibly, even again after that.
